Rice - 1 cup
Toor dal - 1 cup
Carrot - 1
Onions - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Red chillies - 8
Mustard - 1 tsp
Curry leaves and Coriander leaves
Tamarind - Lemon size
Salt to taste
Green peas - 1 cup

Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
Coriander seeds - 2 tsp
Red chillies- 8
Channa dal - 1 tsp
Cloves,Elachi - 1
Cinnamon - 1
Kus kus - 2tsp

1) Pressure cook rice,dal, a pinch of turmeric powder,2 tsps of oil ,asafoetida,carrot and peas with with 6 cups of water for 2 whistles.
2) Heat oil in a frying pan and fry mustard,urad dal.When it splutters,ass curry leaves and chopped onion.fry them till tender.
3) Then add chopped tomato.Fry for a minute.
4) Add tamarind juice, salt to taste and allow it to boil till the raw smell leaves.
5) Add masala and boil for another 5 minutes till the masala smell leaves.
6) Finally add this mixture to rice and dal and mix well.Bisi bela bath is ready to serve with pappads. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and add some ghee just before serving.

when i was in bombay i was staying on rent and the owner was a kannada guy and was staying next to us... his mom was a bessibela bhath exppert.. whenever she cooked it we were invited... today you are just refreshing memories for me....
