BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION ---- TREAT FOR DINNER

Today,we celebrated my hubby's birthday . The day started with a heavy downpour , weather was too chill ........it was raining ..raining all through the day . Never wished to go out for dinner .
So , I planned to make these recipes ............yeah , my plan had come out well .............everything was perfect............truly yummy lovable treat to my hubby............all these recipes are my first time trial out's........

My Menu included CABBAGE SOUP , CAULIFLOWER MANCHURIAN, PEAS PULAO , PANEER CASHEW MASALA and BADAM PURI .

POTATO CURRY



INGREDIENTS :

Potato -- 200 gms
Onion -- 1big
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Tomato -- 1
Jeera -- 1 tsp
Fennel Seeds -- 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Mustard - 1 tsp
Kasturi methi - 1 tsp
Curry leaves

METHOD OF PREPARATION :

1) Heat oil in a pan . Add Mustard , Jeera, Kasturi methi and curry leaves . When it splutters , add little onion , saute till tender.



2) Grind the remaining onion,tomato,jeera ,chilli powder , ginger-garlic paste and fennel seeds. Once the onion is tender, add in the grinded masala. Add in turmeric powder, Garam masala, Chilli powder and Salt.


3) Add chopped potato and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Open the lid, cook till the oil separates out. Garnish with Corinader leaves.

KATHIRIKKAI PAKODA ( BRINJAL FRITTERS)


INGREDIENTS : 

Brinjal -- 300 gms 
Gram flour -- 1/4 cup 
Chilli powder -- 4 tsps 
Rice flour -- 2 tsps 
Jeera  -1 tsp 
Ginger -garlic paste -- 1/4 tsp 
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste 

 METHOD OF PREPARATION : 

1) Slice in brinjal as little fingers. 
2) Add gram flour, chilli powder, Turmeric powder, Jeera, Rice flour, ginger-garlic paste and mix it well by sprinking little water. Marinate for 1 hour . 



3) Heat oil in a kadai. Once hot, drop the brinjal and then deep fry them till roasted.



Serve hot with Rice.

SWEET POHA AND A TAG




INGREDIENTS: 

Peanuts -- 4 tsps 
Grated coconut- 2 tbsps
Country Sugar--1 cup 
Poha -- 1 cup 
Fruits of your choice

METHOD OF PREPARATION: 

1) Heat a teaspoon of ghee in a pan. Fry peanuts and coconut till raw smell of peanut leaves .Turn of the flame . 


2)Then mix well with poha and sugar in a big bowl. Serve with some cut fruits.

VINAYAKAR CHATHURTHI --2009

Hai Friends ,

HAPPY VINAYAKAR CHATHURTHI TO EVERYONE .

VINAYAKAR CHATHURTHI is celebrated as birthday of God Ganesh .

My simple decoration with all my ganesh idols ........




Offerings to God, Kolukkattai , Peanut sundal , Puffed rice , Beaten Rice , Fruits and Roasted channa dal .


KOLUKKATTAI :

INGREDIENTS :

Rice flour -- 1 cup
Jaggery and Grated Coconut -- 1 cup each

METHOD OF PREPARATION :

1) Boil sufficient water with 3 tsps of oil .
2) Then make soft dough of rice flour with this water , add little by little .
3) After making a soft dough , add 4 tbsps of oil and again roll it .
4) Meanwhile , make jaggery syrup and add coconut to it.stir continuously and cook till it gets thickened.
5) Make small balls of dough and stuff it with the filling and steam cook it till done .

PEANUT SUNDAL :

1)Wash peanuts and pressure cook for 5 whistles and drain the stock.
2) Temper it with mustard , urat dal , onion , red chillies and grated coconut .

POTATO CABBAGE GRAVY


 
INGREDIENTS : 

Potato-- 100 gms 
Cabbage -- 100 gms 
Turmeric powder -- 1 tsp
Green Chillies --- 4 
Cumin powder-- 1tsp 
Chilli powder -- 1 tsp 
Ginger --garlic paste -- 1 tsp  
GaramMasala-- 1 tsp 
Grinded coconut - 1 tbsp
Onion - 1
Mustard, Jeera - 1 tsp
Salt to taste

METHOD OF PREPARATION : 

1) Shallow fry potatoes and keep aside.
2) Heat oil in a pan . Once hot,add mustard, jeera. When it splutters, add sliced onion and chillies.



3) Add sliced cabbage and add little water. Cover with a lid and cook till soft.


4) Add grinded coconut paste with little water. 


5) Add spice powders, ginger-garlic paste, salt. Mix it well.


 6) Finally, add potatoes and Cook in slow flame till the oil sepates out. Garnish it with Coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice/roti .This goes to Viki Xavier's Sidedishes For Chapathi.

Choose dress according to the type of party........silk sarees for marriages/reception like a bright coloured one with lot of jari work for wedding and a simple light colour with less work/party wear sarees for reception/birthday parties.Wear simple jewel to match your saree ......not more than 3-4 bangles and white flowers like Jasmine .

Apply light face cream.........don't forget deodorants/perfumes.......

Dress which makes you feel good.........plan a day before the party...don't be in a hurry to dress up .


26) What do you do when you “have nothing to wear” (even though your closet’s packed)?

Simple yesteryear's designed silk saree......without much jari work.

Only Milk in the morning............coffee for evening .

Just lay down with eyes closed for 10 minutes or will take a short sleep .

CABBAGE CURRY


INGREDIENTS : 

Cabbage-- 2 cups chopped 
Onion -- 1 medium 
Jeera and mustard -- 1 tsp each
Ginger garlic paste -- 1 tsp 
Chilli powder -- 1 tsp 
Garam masala powder --- 1 tsp 
Salt to taste 

METHOD OF PREPARATION :

1) Heat oil in a kadai . Add mustard and Jeera . When it splutters , add chopped onion, green chillies ,saute till skinny . 


2) Add cabbage and sprinkle little water .
 Cover with a lid and cook till tender. 


3) Add ginger-garlic paste, chillipowder and salt. Add 2 little water ,Cook till the oil separates . Serve hot with roti / rice.

BANANA SNACK / BANANA VADAI



I learnt this recipe from a marati friend . She used green chillies instead of chilli powder .

This goes to Divya's Cooking for Kids -- evening snacks , event started by Sharmi of Neivedyam.


INGREDIENTS :

Ripe bananas -- 3
Besan Flour ---- 2 cups
Onion --- 1 onion
Red Chilly powder -- 4
Salt to taste
Curry leaves
Jeera -- 2 tsp

METHOD OF PREPARATION :

1) Mash banana's and mix them with other ingredients in to a soft dough .
2) Make small balls of it and tawa fry/shallow fry them .

Serve hot with sauce /chutney.

NAATU KOZHI SOUP (Country style Chicken Soup)



INGREDIENTS:
 

Chicken (with bones)-- 100 gms 
Turmeric root -- 1 small piece
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Crushed Pepper -- 2 tbsps 
Ginger -- a small piece Turmeric powder -- 1 Pearl/ Sambar Onion/ Shallots -- 6
Garlic cloves-4
Jeera --- 1 tsp 
Coriander leaves
Salt to taste.

METHOD OF PREPARATION : 

1) Heat 2 tsps of sesame oil in a pressure cooker. Once hot , add crushed onion and garlic cloves. Saute till tender.


2) Then, add chicken with turmeric powder and saute well it chicken leaves some water. 


 3) Add crushed ginger and turmeric.



4) Add 1 cup of water. Add crushed pepper and Jeera to it. Cook for 4 whistles. Allow the steam to leave. 







Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot . Good for severe cough and cold.

MUSHROOM MASALA




INGREDIENTS:

Mushroom---200 gms
Tomato---1
Onion---1
Cream--2 tbsps
Coconut Milk--1 cup
Salt to taste
Garam masala--1 tsp
Chilli powder -- 1 tsp
Turmeric powder--1/2 tsp
Cashew--2

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

1) Clean mushroom in running water. Slice them in halves.








2) Saute onion and tomato in a spoon of oil.




3) Add mushroom, garam masala,chilli powder ,turmeric powder and salt. Saute till tender.




4)Then add coconut milk and cream.Cook tiil the gravy becomes thick.



Serve hot with Parathas, Roti or Chapathi.
